How to Audit Your Technical SEO in 4 Hours

The Baseline

You can write amazing content, but if your Next.js app is broken and Googlebot gets stuck on a blank screen, you won't rank. It's that simple.

The Quick Audit

  1. Check the basics: Is your sitemap generating correctly? Is your robots.txt accidentally blocking the API endpoint your client-side router needs to render the page?
  2. Find the orphans: Run Screaming Frog. Find pages that have absolutely zero internal links pointing to them. Google hates orphan pages.
  3. Fix the canonicals: If you use tracking parameters (like `?utm_source=`), you are creating duplicate content. Fix your self-referencing canonical tags.
  4. Check the render: Go into Google Search Console, inspect a URL, and click "View Tested Page." Look at the screenshot. Did your JavaScript actually execute, or did Google just see a loading spinner?

Fixing technical SEO is low-hanging fruit. Do it first.
